Starlight Theatre School

Welcome to Starlight Theatre School

Starlight Theatre School is a dance school based in Bramhall, Stockport. We offer classes in Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre for children of all ages. Starlight Theatre School aims to teach a high standard of technique, in enjoyable, fun classes. Dance helps to develop a child's confidence, balance & co-ordination.

Starlight Theatre School opened in January 2006 with Anna McBride as principal. Anna has 10 years professional teaching experience.

On graduating from Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre, Anna undertook work at a South Manchester dance school and became a guest teacher for Stagecoach Theatre Arts and Ladybarn House School. During this time she also gained her RAD teaching certificate.

Anna now teaches musical movement to pre-schoolers at numerous nursery schools and is part of the Manchester Students' Dance Society teaching ballet, tap and modern theatre from beginners to advanced 2 level. She is also choreographing competition and show dances for the society.

At the moment Anna is also guest teacher at Hulme Hall Grammar School teaching ballet, tap and modern theatre to the kindergarten and year 1 children. She is also the GCSE dance teacher.

Anna has a CRB check and first aid training.

She also became an Associate member of the ISTD, a QCA & internationally recognised teaching qualification, that now runs in conjunction with the Edexcel Diploma.

In January 2010 Anna was chosen to have a dance off at the Strictly Come Dancing show with another audience member and won a signed programme!

What is RAD?

With over 13,000 members' spread across 79 countries, The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organisations in the world.

The Academy's patron is HM Queen Elizabeth II. The Royal Adademy of Dance Membership supports the advancement of dance and includes professional dancers, students, teachers, benefactors and friends.

The Royal Academy of Dance was established in 1920, it's main aim was to improve standards and re-invigorate dance training initially within the UK, the Academy helps and encourages its teachers to perfect their teaching skills and pass on this knowledge to their students.

The RAD is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), which have accredited the Academy's Graded and Vocational Examinations. This places these qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

What is I.S.T.D?

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is the world's leading dance examinations board.

Formed in 1904 it is today a registered educational charity and is the only organisation that covers the full spectrum of dance examinations on a truly global scale.

The ISTD's chief objective is "to educate the public in the art of dancing in all its forms". To achieve this, the ISTD works in four main ways:

• to promote knowledge of dance

• to maintain and improve teaching standards

• to qualify, by examination, teachers of dancing in the ISTD's specialist techniques taught by our 10,000 members in schools of dancing throughout the world

• to provide, through its syllabi, techniques upon which to train dancers for the profession.

Each year upwards of 250,000 people are examined, for whom we provide grade examinations and medal tests to assess their proficiency.
